What Do You Get A DIYer For Mother’s Day? 7 HART Ambassador Moms Share Their Favorite HART Tool

When is Mother’s Day? This year, it falls on May 8th (always the second Sunday of May). If you’re thinking, “That’s almost here,” you’d be right. You can always bring her flowers, get her another necklace or send a mother’s day meme. But if your mom, sister, daughter or best friend is into DIY, the best Mother’s Day gifts we have found are the ones she can actually use (like a new HART tool). Now you’re thinking. “How do I choose the right tool?” We’re one step ahead of you. We asked 7 HART Ambassadors (who also happen to be DIY moms like yours) what their must-have tool is. We hope their stories will help inspire your gift-giving ideas.

Lia @southernyankeediy - 20V Impact Driver

For this DIY-loving mom Lia @southernyankeediy, it all started when she and her husband purchased a house on 18 acres of land. Their goal was to turn this outdated house into their “dream” home. Thankfully, this mama learned how to use power tools from her mama. (How great is that?) “I love that my 20V Impact Driver has so much power (without being wrist breaking) and how easy it is to swap out bits depending upon the project,” said Lia. Does she have a favorite project? “Oh boy, there isn’t a project I do without my impact driver, so that’s a tough one. I’d say it’s a tie between creating my son, Eli’s reading corner and our latest arched built-ins!”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“I wanted to create a home that looked like it came out of a magazine. At the time we couldn’t afford it, so I started doing small makeovers and painting furniture. My mom taught me how to use power tools and woodworking. From there, I found I had a passion to create. I learned that with a few tools, and a little DIY elbow grease, the possibilities are endless!”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“DIY gives you this incredible outlet to be creative and to have some alone time. It’s also a great way to bond with your little ones. In my mind, they’re both important, so why not embrace them both?”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“One day, I was swapping out light switches for a different look. My toddler saw me working on it, picked up his play screwdriver, went to a different light switch, and started “working” on it. After he was done, he turned on the switch and clapped his hands. I loved how excited he became.”

Astra @athomewithastra - 10” Miter Saw

Meet Astra from @athomewithastra. This single mom of two juggles DIY, her 9-5, motherhood, design, home décor, and much more. (We need a nap just thinking about her day.) And she does it all with flair, modern farmhouse flair to be exact. “I love my HART 10" miter saw, because it allows me to be in control of my woodworking projects with the ability to cut my own wood—be it straight or angled cuts,” said Astra. So, what’s her favorite project? “I've completed just about every project in my home with that miter saw, so it's hard to pick. I’ll have to say it’s my most recent bathroom and bedroom remodels.”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“I decided I wanted to love my home design and décor, and that I wanted to be the one to make/build/create it myself.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“The hardest part can be just getting started. Cast your fears of failure or inadequacy aside—just jump in and get your feet wet.”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“It's the pride my kids have in me, in my projects, in our home. For them to watch me do these huge projects, as a single Mom, helps them realize they really can do anything they put their minds to.”

Dhara @studio_dharaesque - 20V Orbital Jigsaw

DIYer, designer, and mother, Dhara @studio_dharaesque is all about trying new things. She tells her followers not to be intimidated by power tools. That it’s totally okay to mistakes, after all, how else do you learn? “I really love the 20V Orbital Jigsaw for a few reasons: First, it's such a great free-form tool for cutting curved features. Second, there’s absolutely no setup at all—just swap out the blades and start. Finally, it’s what got me started using power tools and woodworking as a newbie along with my sander!” Does she have a favorite DIY project? “My cousin asked me to make her a table. I used the miter saw and it turned out to be my best creation—in fact, it ended up on Uncommon Goods!”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“Ever since I can remember, I loved making things with my hands and watching a project take shape. I've also found a lot of joy in creating personalized gifts for people on special occasions. All this, along with my inclination toward the arts, inspired me to take up DIYing. And as far as I'm concerned, I’m just getting started!”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“One thing I do is plan my schedule ahead of time. I like working on projects when my kids are around. It’s helped me to create the balance I need to have a great DIY mom life!”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE STORY ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“My baby girl loves to imitate me whenever I'm working on a project. The best one was when I was measuring cabinets for my mom’s kitchen makeover. I happened to turn around and there was my daughter holding a piece of string doing the same thing I was doing. It was the absolute best feeling.”

Megan @baker.blooms - 20V Drill/Driver

Say “Hello” to Megan @baker.blooms, mom and self-professed DIY addict. She’s all about creating beautiful spaces on a budget. Her tool of choice is the HART 20V Drill. “I use my drill the most. There’s always SOMETHING that needs a little love and this tool is light enough, so it doesn’t hurt my wrists, At the same time, it has enough power to get the job done,” said Megan. We asked if she had a favorite project? “Actually, I have two: My bifold door makeover and DIY velvet bench.”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“I grew up in a family who DIYed by necessity and I carried that over when I bought my first house. It’s become a form of therapy for me. I’ve learned so much since that first house—and love that there’s always more to learn.’

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“It’s vital to make the time to do what you love. Too many times we put ourselves on the back burner, but it’s important that our kids see us learning and creating and being the strong, amazing, capable women that we are made to be. So make the time to clear your head and do what you love.”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“My favorite part is when my kids see me working on a project from start to finish. They’ll come home from school and are so surprised and happy. Last year, I redid both of their bedrooms, and the gratitude they showed, and the way they reacted, was absolutely priceless. To this day, they still tell me how much they love their rooms.”

Nini @flowersbynini - 20V 5” Random Orbit Sander

Nini @flowersbynini is a mom with a passion for home décor and DIYing. She’s amazed by what she’s accomplished using just a cordless sander and a can of paint. It’s no wonder the 20V 5” Random Orbit Sander gets her vote. “My orbital sander is so easy to use and great for achieving a "distressed" look. Before, I used to sand down everything by hand. Having the sander has been such a game-changer and saves so much time,” said Nini. Her favorite project using her random orbit sander? “I’ve got two: The tree bookshelf in our boys’ room and our refreshed fireplace mantle.”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“When we first bought our home, we needed furniture, but we were on a very tight budget. I thrifted a bunch of used furniture (none of which were really my style) and gave the pieces a makeover with sanding and paint. I've been hooked on DIYing ever since!”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“Projects can be very therapeutic. The process as well as the end result make for a great way to feel relaxed and feel accomplished.”

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“My little guys are so intrigued by HART Tools. They love seeing them in action and are particularly interested in how the batteries charge and work. My favorite story is the time I couldn't figure out why my sander wasn't turning on. My 5-year-old quickly pointed out that the battery needed charging!”

Katie @lifeonsummerlin - 20V Circular Saw

We love that this DIY mother, designer, and furniture maker is totally self-taught. Katie @lifeonsummerlin has a motto: Why buy when you can build. (We second that.) Here’s why the HART 20V Circular Saw is her must-have tool. “This circ saw is my favorite, because prior to using it, I was afraid every time I used my previous one. It was old and handed down to me. However, this new one is easy to use and cuts very smoothly. Plus, the added bonus of not having to worry about accidentally cutting through the cords is great,” said Katie. Her favorite project using her circ saw? “Definitely my matching console and coffee tables.”

HOW DID YOU START DIYing?
“I made signs for my first home.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OTHER DIY MOMS?
“Don't be afraid, just do it. Learn from your mistakes and grow.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DIY MOM?
“My teenage son needed to "make something" for a school project. There were no rules, except it had to be homemade. He asked me for help building a birdhouse. Not his dad, not his grandfather, ME. Yeah, that made me feel special, like he looked up to me, not only as a mom but also as a DIYer.”

We hope our mom Ambassadors help inspire your gift-giving. Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there, from your friends here at HART. #DoItWithHART
