Nothing Hits Harder.
In 1983, Hart Tool Co., Inc. launched in Los Angeles, California with a product line consisting solely of framing hammers. The original HART® hammer line was created for framers, by framers. From the beginning, the HART brand has set itself apart from the competition by providing unique combinations of head and arm shapes, saving center line balance.
The HART brand experienced immense success in its early years with the California Special™ framing hammer and the Woody® all- trades hammer. In 1989, the California Special hammer became known as the ultimate framer’s hammer, featuring a double-barrel wedge to hold the head securely to the handle. The California Special hammer also featured an extra-long, curved axe handle grip for comfort and durability. In 1997, Hart Tool Co., Inc., launched the revolutionary Woody all-trades hammer which featured a Top Nail Pull and a unique split handle design to offer overstrike protection on the handle.
The focus for the HART brand has always been delivering innovative features on hammers, including exceptional weight balance ratio, polished hammer heads, a progressive angled face design, a side nail pull, and an aesthetically pleasing, futuristic design.
Continuing on with this legacy and heritage, the newest line of HART hammers continues to build upon these industry changing innovations with an arsenal of Signature Features found on each HART tool. Built upon the success of its framing hammers the HART brand has expanded its tool line to include all-purpose hammers, mattocks, axes, mauls, wedges, sledge hammers, chisels, and struck tools. In 2014, the HART brand will launch its newest generation of professional tools with Quick-Tatch™ The Interchangeable Handle System, and two innovative clamp categories.
With superior performance and innovative Signature Features, you can be assured that Nothing Hits Harder™ than a HART tool.

A mattock is a great tool for breaking up difficult soil. At least for shallow holes or larger excavations. I used the Hart Mattock to break up the initial few layers of soil for a few footings I’m going to pour for a deck on the back of this condo.
